French Broad Majestic View at Hot Springs

This painting depicts the beautiful French Broad River near Hot Springs, NC in mid summer. The landmark, Lover's Leap Rock is on the left and the view looks upriver, South, since the river flows North, past the Surprise Falls and towards the bend of the river which leads up to Stackhouse. This was painted during a dry period and the river is low. Normally, the rocks shown in the foreground are under many feet of water. This was painted on site with several sessions and followed by extensive studio work.
